And we know that. That's why it's an advantage to buy your new fly rod from us, here at Nordicanglers. We have an opinion on fly rods. Since we have an incredible number of fishing days every year, we can also keep track of which rods do well in certain areas - because your local conditions matter!
The little fly rod dictionary
When talking aboutfly rods, then we also talk about some very specific concepts. These include:
Fly rod class:
Fly rodsis divided intodifferent classes– the most used and popular is class 7, as it can be used for a wide variety of different types of fishing. The classes say something about how light or heavy the rod is – the lower the number, the lighter the fly rod. The classes can be divided as follows:
Class 000 - 4:light fishing
Grades 5 - 7:all-round for trout and similar (coastal and put & take fishing)
Grades 8 - 10:pike, salmon and light tropical (snook, bluefin, redfish)
Grades 10 - 14:tarpon, GT, tuna etc.
Fly rod casting weight:
The line should be matched to the fly rod., that you purchase. It must be balanced correctly in terms of casting weight, so that you can make the very best cast. If you buy one of our fly sets, we will make sure that your line is adjusted correctly before shipping. This way, you can immediately go fishing with your newly purchased fly rod.
Fly rods for different types of fishing
Are you unsure about which fly rod to choose? Then read on below, where we will guide you in the best way. Fly rods can be used for a variety of different types of fishing. First of all, fly rods can be divided into one-handed fly rods and two-handed fly rods.
The one-handed fly rodis excellent for beginners, as it is the easiest to learn to cast with. The rod gives you full control over all your casts. As the name suggests, you use two hands for the two-handed fly rod, as it is equipped with two handles – one above the fly wheel, and one below. This rod gives you some calm, straight casts – both the short and long ones. The two-handed fly rod is primarily used for salmon fishing.
Fly rod for coastal fishing
If you are going to cast flies along the coast, we recommend that you get a one-handed fly rod in class 6 or 7. When you are going to fish along the coast, you will probably often be exposed to some harsh and windy weather, and therefore a rod with some good power is necessary.
Fly rod for salmon fishing
A salmon can quickly weigh an incredible number of kilos, which is why a powerful rod is necessary to pull the salmon onto land. Here we would recommend a two-handed rod, which is the primary rod when fishing for salmon.
When you click on each fly rod in our range, you can read a more detailed presentation, as well as gain insight into the rod's specifications. This will probably make you much more knowledgeable about which fly rod you should choose. Maintaining your fly rod
When you buy afly rodHere at Nordic Anglers you are guaranteed good quality and durable rods. But of course you can also do your part to make your fly rod last even longer. If you have been out on the coast fishing in salt water, it might be a good idea to rinse your fly rod clean of all the salt, and then dry it thoroughly before packing it back up.
A lot of salt can quickly accumulate around the rod, which can deteriorate the quality in the long term. We also offer to give your rod Cork Seal if desired. This reduces the breakdown of the cork and protects it from dirt and wear.
