Djursland is something special, everyone who has moved around in nature out there knows that. It is beautiful, rugged and completely unique - and that is also the case with the Sea Trout. In Djursland, the sea trout have a reputation for being big, really big. Every year, several fish over 85 CM are caught, which can be said to be a real dream fish, and many anglers have seen themselves beaten by the mythical beasts. Whether you have filled your bag with sea trout lures or flies, you can always find a place where you have good conditions.

Fishing on Djursland is a hunt; the hunt for the big dream fish. The shiny beast that always appears in our dreams, the fish that can really make you get fishing fever and can't stay away from the water.

The East Coast's Fishing Riches

Djursland is known for its unique east coast, where anglers can enjoy the many varied fishing spots. From Horsens to Randers, the coast offers a wealth of opportunities to catch species such as sea trout, mackerel, garfish, bream and flatfish. The area is particularly attractive when the water is cold, as the current and temperature are often ideal for the large sea trout. The spring months see the coast explode with life, and the chances of landing more than one fish are good. Djursland's east coast is also beginner-friendly, and even in the rougher areas you can stand directly from the shore and have good chances of catching a fish.

The best fishing gear for coastal fishing on Djursland - Spin

Djursland is many things:

Reef fishing, large reefs, list fishing in the coves and fishing for summer's guest fish - our focus is on the baits that are generally best for fishing on Djursland:

In general, we like drifters with a sandeel-like shape. The big fish on Djursland are used to hunting smaller fish, and as several wise anglers have said over time: "Big fish eat small fish".

Make sure you have a mixed tackle box with you. We have collected our favorite bait for Djursland here.

Remember blinkers in Motoroil as well as red and black

Motoroil is a real big hit, on many different occasions.

It's a bit like all the different brands have agreed that this particular color must be the most toxic.

In addition, when fishing inshore on Djursland, you may find that the water is murky - that's how it is when it's windy.

It is our experience that coastal wobblers in Red/Black work sensationally well in these conditions.

The right fishing rod for Djursland

The right rod for Djursland can cast up to 25-27 grams.

It can be quite windy on the open coast, and it can require relatively heavy tackle to get under current and waves. However, most days you fish with bait between 14 and 23 grams, which is more than enough - remember that most fish stay right inland.

I (Christoffer), myself use a Shimano Lunamis of 9´6 feet , and am very satisfied with that rod. Other good suggestions could be:

Fly fishing on the coasts of Djursland - the tackle

Fly fishing on Djursland is most often done with class 6 and 7 rods, but more and more people are starting to find class 4 and 5 on the easy days.

We ourselves are very happy with the Volantis line in intermediate, as it easily gets under the waves and simply fishes fantastically. The flies are the same as you would use on any other Danish outer coast, although with a few preferred patterns in between.

  • Høtyven - A large shrimp fly with a lively gait in the water
  • The raccoon - a small poisonous fly that can look like a little bit of everything
  • Lucifer - an imitation of a sea lice, something that can be a lot of

Family-friendly Fishing on Djursland

Every year, both garfish and mackerel migrate to the Danish coast. These fish are abundant, fight well, and taste good - and they are easy to catch.

Take the whole family out for a round of coastal fishing on Djursland, it will be an experience you will never forget.

WARNING: It may happen that your family gets so hooked on fishing that you will have to share your gear with them ;)
